Teen Social Networking population has increased, but the
popularity of some sites has shifted. This is predominantly due to the fact that
older adults use Facebook more than ever, so teens and young adults have shifted
more towards Twitter and Instagram. I see this with members of my own family.
My brother has deleted his account with Facebook because my mom joined and was
constantly making comments on his page. Most teens and young adults want to be
able to share pictures and post comments freely without their parents snooping
around. Facebook is currently the most commonly-used online social network
among adults. On the other hand Twitter is more likely to be used among older
teens.
Wireless internet use rates are highest among young adults,
and laptops have replaced desktop as the computer of choice among those thirty and
under. I believe this is true for adults between the age of 30-40. I don’t know
of anyone who has a desktop computer. I personally have bought laptops during
my last three computer purchases. As far as the use of wireless internet, 81%
of adults between the ages of 18 and 29 are wireless internet users. For my age
group 30-49, 63% use wireless internet. With wireless internet being so easy to
set up, I’m surprised the numbers are not higher. Even my mother who is 60
years old as wireless internet.
Practically everyone we know has a cell phone. Nearly 93% of
adults ages 18-29 now have cell phones and 75% of teens. Over the past few
years cell phone ownership has increased among younger teens with 58% of 12
year old having cell phones.
Since ownership of cell phones has increased, the use of internet
through mobile devices has increased as well. African Americans were the
highest group to use their mobile device to access the internet.
With cell phones now becoming smart phones, have access to
the internet is much more accessible and convenient for all of us.
